Jenny Jones heads list of Green 2012 Mayoral hopefuls

Jenny Jones is one of three contenders hoping to become the Green's Mayoral candidate
London’s Green Party have confirmed the shortlist of hopefuls hoping to become the party’s 2012 Mayor of London candidate.

Existing London Assembly Member Jenny Jones, who confirmed her candidacy last month, will be up against policy co-ordinator and former MEP candidate Shahrar Ali and Farid Bakht who was the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Bow and Bethnal Green constituency in last year’s General Election.

The candidates will take part a hustings on March 3rd ahead of a ballot of all London Green Party members.

Jones and fellow Assembly Member Darren Johnson are the highest profile candidates seeking a place on the party’s list for the London Assembly’s top-up seats.

Other candidates include Noel Lynch who served on the London Assembly between 2003 and 2004 and Mayoral hopefuls Ali and Bakht.

Assembly candidates will take part in a hustings on 5th March.

The Green Mayoral candidate will be challenging incumbent Mayor Boris Johnson and Labour’s Ken Livingstone. The Liberal Democrats have yet to select a candidate.
