LibDem Mayoral Candidate Simon Hughes is today calling for London Underground to halt plans to allow the use of mobile phones on the tube network.
Mr Hughes claims mobile phones are a “cheap and effective long-range detonator” for terrorists and that his suggestion would help prevent a Madrid style terror attack on the Tube network.
Unveiling a list of proposed security measures today Hughes will praise London’s police saying they “have done a magnificent job so far in preventing an attack on London”.
Among Mr Hughes’ other suggestions are manned police boxes at every mainline station during rush hour and the use of council tax bills to inform Londoners what to do in the even of a terrorist attack.
