Has Sadiq axed Boris’s New Year’s Eve fireworks tickets?

October 6, 2016 - Martin Hoscik@MayorWatch

Although initially unpopular, Boris’s decision to make the capital’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display a ticketed event has been a regular source of traffic, with web users searching increasingly early in the year for news of their release dates.

Last year the tickets went on sale on October 2nd but so far the City Hall website has no news of when they’ll be released this year beyond the holding announcement of “Autumn”.

When I asked Mayor Sadiq Khan’s press office when they were going on sale – or whether the new Mayor has scrapped the ticketing system – I was told an update would be coming “in a week or two”.

Mid-October does not leave a lot of time for people coming to London especially for the fireworks to make their plans so I asked again whether the Mayor is dropping the tickets.

In response the Mayor’s office tell me they’ll “have a general announcement about this year’s plans soon”.

If Sadiq hasn’t axed the tickets, what else could be causing him to delay releasing them for sale?
