Harrow Tory leader set to join London Assembly following General Election

May 8, 2017 by Martin Hoscik

Harrow Councillor Susan Hall is set to join the London Assembly following next month’s General Election.

Hall, leader of the Conservative group on the council, is in line to replace Assembly Member Kemi Badenoch who is standing in Saffron Walden where the outgoing Tory MP, Sir Alan Haselhurst, has a majority of 24,991.

Badenoch has confirmed she’ll quit City Hall if elected to the Commons. She was re-elected to the Assembly last May through the London-wide top-up list which means she can stand down without triggering a by-election.

As the next highest placed candidate on the list, Hall would be entitled to take her colleague’s place.

Hall told MayorWatch: “I would be delighted to join colleagues in City Hall holding the Mayor to account,” although she stuck to the party’s official public line of not taking the election result for granted, adding: “but we will have to wait and see what happens.”

In addition to her duties as a local councillor, Hall also serves on the capital’s fire authority.
