Greens Welcome 25 C-Charge for Most Polluting Vehicles

July 13, 2006 by Staff

Green Party Assembly Members have welcomed an announcement of changes to the congestion charge scheme which will see higher polluting vehicles paying more.

Jenny Jones, London Assembly Green Party Member, said:

“I am absolutely thrilled. It is only fair that people who choose to drive big, gas guzzling cars pay more and people who drive a low polluting vehicle should pay less”

The new congestion charge will work on a sliding scale based on the amount of CO2 emissions the vehicle produces.

Vehicles that produce the most could end up paying £25 a day.

Darren Johnson, Green Party London Assembly Member commented:

“I have been pushing for this change since the congestion charge came into force. With the threat of climate change being what it is, it is good to see Ken making the polluter pay.”
