Greens announce 2012 Assembly candidates

May 9, 2011 by Martin Hoscik

Jenny Jones has been named the Green's Mayoral candidate and top's their Assembly list
A former Assembly Member who served during London Assembly’s first term is hoping to return to City Hall as part of an enlarged group of Green Party AMs.

The party has announced that Noel Lynch, who sat on the London Assembly between May 2003 and June 2004, has been elected to third place on its list of candidates.

Of the 25-strong Assembly, 14 are elected to serve constituencies with 11 Londonwide members representing the whole capital.

At present the Greens hold two of the Londonwide seats on the Assembly, having lost a third seat – held for some of the 2000-04 term by Lynch – at the 2004 election.

Existing AMs Jenny Jones, who is also the party’s Mayoral candidate, and Darren Johnson have held the top two spots and are therefore almost certain to be re-elected.

Lynch, Chair of the London Federation of Green Parties, predicted falling support for the Liberal Democrats could see him return to City Hall.

Referring to last week’s English council elections, Lynch said: “We have seen the Lib Dems lose votes to the Greens in the local elections and this is a pattern that could easily be repeated in next year’s Assembly elections. We have every reason to be optimistic of increasing our seats in 2012.”

The full Green Party list of London-wide Assembly candidates is as follows:
1. Jenny Jones
2. Darren Johnson
3. Noel Lynch
4. Natalie Bennett
5. Shahrar Ali
6. Farid Bakht
7. Charlotte Dingle
8. Sue Luxton
9. Caroline Allen
10. Romayne Phoenix
11. Caroline Russell
