Greens accuse Mayor of failing to keep Londoners warm

November 12, 2008 - Staff

London’s Green Party has condemned Mayor Boris Johnson’s administration for removing details of the Greater London Authority’s home insulation scheme, which offers discounted insulation kits from as little as £50 and free insulation to the over-70s and people on benefits, from the GLA website.

At Wednesday’s Mayor’s Question Time, Green Party Assembly Member Darren Johnson questioned Mayor Johnson over the decision to remove details of the scheme from the london.gov.uk homepage. Details remain on the GLA site but links from the mail GLA site have been removed.

The removal follows Mayor Johnson’s decision to remove advertising for the scheme from London’s bus and tube networks.

Mr Johnson AM said: “Hundreds of thousands of people will struggle to keep their homes warm this winter.  Help is available – but how are people supposed to find out about it if it isn’t even on the Greater London Authority website?

Speaking this morning the Mayor undertook to look into the decision to stop highlighting the scheme on the website.
