Fire Brigade takes safety message to Twitter

March 7, 2011 - Staff

Londoners wishing to keep up to date with the latest information on major fires and emergency incidents can now do so via the London Fire Brigade’s recently launched Twitter account.

The Brigade says it will use the social networking site to keep Londoners and the media informed during major incidents, including the impact of any incident on transport links of street accessibility.

Fire chiefs are also hoping use of Twitter will encourage people to visit the Brigade’s website for further fire safety information.

Rita Dexter, the Brigade’s Deputy Commissioner said: “When major incidents involving the Brigade happen, news spreads quickly. Londoners lead busy lives and need to have the latest information fast. By using Twitter, we’re able to get accurate information out more quickly.

“The Twitter feed will also help us to target new audiences with fire safety messages. By using Twitter to link to vital fire safety information on our own website, we can help make the capital an even safer place for residents and visitors.”

Twitter users can follow @LondonFire for all the latest updates.
