Festival Celebrates East London

London Mayor Ken Livingstone has announced plans for east, a new six-day cultural festival celebrating East London.

The festival will include over 400 events with activities and attractions including performance, art, history, fashion and food in and around Spitalfields, Brick Lane and Whitechapel, St Paul’s and the City, Hoxton and Clerkenwell, Dalston and Hackney, Wapping and Docklands.

As well as the Mayor’s office organisations participating in the festival include the Museum of London, Whitechapel Gallery, Barbican, Serious, Rich Mix, New Spitalfields market, Old Spitalfields market, Fashion East, and Arts Admin.

Announcing the festival Mayor Livingstone said East London “with its rich past and present, has long been a real creative hotbed in London.”

“This collaboration will offer Londoners a wonderful opportunity to sample and enjoy an unrivalled mix of cultural experiences in this unique part of the city. For people already living in the area, we hope they will discover something new. And if you are visiting for the first time, we want you to return.”

East runs from Thursday 1 to the Tuesday 6 March. A guide to the event will be available from City Hall and at different outlets around the capital. It can also be downloaded from www.findeast.co.uk
