Back in the summer Mayor Sadiq Khan and policing deputy Sophie Linden got a fair bit of flak over the tone of a Met Police media event and PR run heralding the launch of Operation Hercules which saw additional firearms officers deployed around the capital.

TfL already controls the London Overground and DLR, and will be responsible for the Crossrail / Elizabeth Line service when it opens in 2019. The agency has long hoped to further extend its control over rail travel by winning control of services such as Southern, Southeastern and South West trains.

London’s fire authority published a draft London Safety Plan setting out how it will respond to fire and rescue calls, as well as the threat of terrorism and incidents of flooding over the next four years

The report was commissioned in May by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan who wanted to ensure London’s emergency services had the training, equipment and funding necessary to keep London safe and respond to any incidents.

Mr Khan has made clear his ambition to complete the devolution of rail services to City Hall and Transport for London which began under London’s first Mayor, Ken Livingstone.
