Clubs Asked to Support London Summer of Sport

March 6, 2007 by Staff

London’s sports venues have been invited to participate in the London Summer of Sport initiative.

The initiative provides financial and branding support to sports clubs and centres which free run events to encourage people to try new sports and enjoy more physical activity and is organised by the Mayor of London in partnership with Sport England.

Any sports club, school or community group can apply for support with putting on a sports event. Events must be open to the public and be free of charge.

Speaking today Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said he was pleased the 2006 event had “catered for disabled Londoners, who are often overlooked in this field” and hoped this year would build on that success.

Mr Livingstone said the initiative was “the perfect opportunity for sport clubs to attract new members by organising fun, accessible, free events for their local communities.” and said he wanted to “encourage everyone to apply.”
