City Hall reveals costs of accountability

It costs £74 to answer each question posed by the London Assembly
The cost of providing written answers to London Assembly Members averages £74.57 according to official figures provided by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

In addition to asking questions for verbal response at the regulate Mayor’s Question Time, AMs also table a number of questions requiring written responses.

Responding to the question “How much does it cost to answer this question?” posed by Tory AM Andrew Boff, Mayor Johnson revealed the average cost of each question is £74.57 with an annual cost of £316,920 for answering all questions across the 10 Mayor’s Question Time sessions.

The Mayor’s answer is based on AMs submitting an average of 425 questions per month with each question taking 2.23hours to answer and “average salary of £33.44ph of those drafting and clearing questions across the GLA group”
