Capital to lose 5 MPs in boundary shake-up

June 6, 2011 by Staff

The number of MPs representing London is set to fall
London stands to lose 5 MPs under the coalition’s proposals to cut the total number of MPs in the House of Commons from 650 to 600.

A simulation of the proposed changes compiled by Democratic Audit suggests the number of MPs representing the capital will fall from 73 to 68.

The changes would leave London with more than 11% of the seats in the reformed Chamber.

In a presentation for the Guardian, researchers warn the reduction will make it “impossible” for London seats to continue being assigned to single and neighbouring boroughs.
