London’s fire authority has announced plans to recruit 150 trainee firefighters and will be using Facebook to identify potential applicants.
Those interested in applying can complete a short quiz on the London Fire Brigade’s official Facebook page which will help them understand the role of a firefighter and the qualities required.
The Brigade says it is especially interested in attracting “more women, particularly black and ethnic minority women, into the organisation” in order to have “a workforce that reflects London’s population”.
Brian Coleman, Chairman the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, said: “Hiring new firefighters when the current tough economic climate is putting a financial squeeze on the public sector sends a clear message that we are determined to maintain and protect front line fire services.”
“There will be more challenges ahead but I am determined to deliver an efficient and effective emergency service without compromising public safety.”
