Boris Johnson Condemns Network Rail Knighthood

February 28, 2008 by Staff

Conservative Mayoral candidate Boris Johnson has condemned the awarding of a Knighthood to Ian McAllister the Chair of Network Rail on the same day the company was fined a record £14 million for widespread engineering work overruns in the New Year.

In a statement released by his campaign Mr Johnson said:  “Commuters facing ever higher journey times and staggering price hikes will be disgusted to know the top brass of a company that received a record fine today has been given a knighthood. Who will pay for the fine? You guessed it – those buying train tickets.:

“The only people who suffer are those stuck nose-to-armpit on their way in and out of London everyday. They deserve better. Since when was it ok to reward failure?”
