Bomb Alert in Central London

June 29, 2007 by Staff

An explosive device has been found in the The Haymarket area of Central London. Police received reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in, SW1, shortly before 2am this morning (29 June). As a precautionary measure the immediate area has been cordoned off. Explosive officers who examined the building discovered what appeared to be a potentially viable explosive device. This was made safe.

The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command has launched an investigation and a police statement advises that the Haymarket is likely to remain closed for the foreseeable future and the public are advised that there is likely to be local disruption to both pedestrians and vehicles.

Transport for London report that a number of bus routes are affected by the alert and Piccadilly Circus Tube station is currently closed.
