BBC Parliament Expands Subtitling

October 16, 2006 by Staff

The BBC Parliament channel, which features regular coverage of Mayor’s Question Time, is to increase the amount of subtitled programming hours it offers.

The expansion will see the channel offer increase the current 450 hours ofsubtitled output per year to 810 hours which will enable the channel to offer coverage of the most important events in a subtitled version.

The move follows representations to the BBC by parliamentarians and the RNID. and is a voluntary commitment by the BBC as the channel’s audience share is below the threshold at which broadcasters are obliged by Ofcom to offer subtitles.
