Barnes invites Londoners to celebrate Eid

September 24, 2010 by Staff

London Deputy Mayor Richard Barnes will join an expected crowd of thousands in Trafalgar Square this Sunday for the capital’s fifth annual celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The event, which is sponsored by the Mayor of London and organised in partnership with Muslim community organisations, follows the month long fasting for Ramadan and includes performances by Amir Awan, hip-hop MC Quest-Rah and R&B singer Mumzy Stranger.

Deputy Mayor Barnes said it gave him “great pleasure to extend special Eid greetings to London’s Muslim communities.”

Mr Barnes, who has previously spoken of the importance in deliberating London’s diverse mix of cultures, added: “Muslims are an integral part of the rich fabric of London and contribute to the economic, financial, cultural, entrepreneurial and social life of the capital to name but a few areas. Their input is something that all Londoners benefit from.”

Date: Sunday 26 September 2010
