AMs to discuss Arts Council row and Olympic legacy

November 16, 2009 by Martin Hoscik

cityhall_closeLondon Assembly Members will tomorrow examine how to ensure the Olympic Park brings real benefits for Londoners.

Members of the London Assembly Economic Development, Culture, Sport and Tourism (EDCST) Committee will be hearing from Mayoral Olympics Adviser Neale Coleman and David Bernstein, Chair of Wembley National Stadium Ltd.

They will also discuss the appointment of the Chair of the Arts Council for London following recent claims that Boris Johnson interfered in the selection process.

The Mayor recommended former Evening Standard editor Veronica Wadley for the post, reportedly despite objections from two of the three members of the selection panel.

Last month it was confirmed that the selection process would be re-run after the appointment was blocked by Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw.

The EDCST Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 17 November at 10am in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Members of the public are invited to attend and the meeting can also be viewed via webcast at: http://www.london.gov.uk/assembly/webcasts.jsp
