Ad seeks to raise profile of custody visitors

March 20, 2009 by Staff

A new ad to increase public awareness of Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) will air next week.

ICVs are members of the local community who make unannounced visits to police stations to check that those being detained are treated in accordance with their rights and entitlements.

Visitors file a short report on the custody conditions they find and their recommendations can require the police to make improvements for the welfare of those they detain.

The 30 second radio advert will air on Choice FM (96.9FM) from Monday 23 March.

For more information about the Independent Custody Visiting scheme or how to become a volunteer ICV, go to ICVLondon.org.uk
