£17m ‘contingency funds’ for London’s Councils

February 24, 2009 - Martin Hoscik@MayorWatch

London’s councils are to receive more than £17 million in contingency payments from Central Government, the Local Government Minister John Healey has announced.  The funds are being made available from the Local Authority Business Growth Incentives (LABGI) scheme and can be used as boroughs see fit to help meet local needs and priorities.

Announcing the funds, Mr Healey commented: “I am pleased to be able to confirm the share of £100 million that councils will get, with no strings attached and extra to the core grant they receive, which will be a real boost to councils’ coffers as they provide much-needed support to their communities – particularly in these tough economic times.”
