Plans to scrap the weekday London Underground service to Kensington Olympia should be re-considered according to passenger watchdog London TravelWatch.
LU say the changes would reduce delays and provide capacity for “4,000 more passengers on the Wimbledon branch” and has promised to maintain a weekend service to and from Kensington (Olympia).
It has also committed to “operate special services to serve major weekday events” at the venue.
The plans have already been criticised Kensington and Chelsea council which is concerned they service loss would make it harder for visitors to travel to Olympia when the Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre closes.
TravelWatch say the closure of the wheelchair accessible Olympia station would force passengers to take “long and inconvenient diversions.”
Chair Sharon Grant says: “Although we recognise that the closing Kensington Olympia on Monday to Fridays could produce significant benefits to passengers on other parts of the District Line, we are very concerned about this closure and urge TfL to reconsider.”
