TfL issues post lockdown travel guidance and urges passengers to walk and cycle if possible

December 1, 2020 - Martin Hoscik@MayorWatch

People are being urged to cycle and walk where possible.

Transport for London has issued new guidance for passengers returning to its services following the lifting of the national lockdown and the placing of the capital in tier 2 of the Government’s COVID restrictions.

With shops and hospitality venues reopening and the approaching Christmas season, passenger numbers are expected to increase across the network.

Passengers are being advised to walk or cycle where possible and TfL is urging those who can’t to travel during quiet times.

These are currently between 08:15 and 16:00 and after 17:30 on weekdays, and before noon and after 18:00 on weekends on public transport. On the roads quiet times are between 10:00 and 15:00 and after 19:00 on weekdays, and before 10:00 and after 18:00 on weekends.

The agency has also published information about quiet stations and stops.

Signage on trains, buses, platforms and stations will remind everyone to socially distance and wear a mask over their nose and mouth unless they’re exempt.

Passengers are also being reassured that an enhanced cleaning regime is in place across the network with trains and stations being cleaned “with hospital-grade cleaning substances that kill viruses and bacteria on contact and providing ongoing protection.”

Andy Byford, London’s Transport Commissioner, said: “Londoners will be keen to enjoy London’s shops, businesses and hospitality venues in the run up to Christmas.

“That’s good for London, and we are here to get you where you need to go, but it’s incredibly important that everyone follows the Government guidance on how to keep everyone safe.”
