Images of the hole thieves drilled to access the vault at a Hatton Garden safe deposit company over the Easter weekend have been released by the Met Police.

The thieves used a heavy duty drill to bore a hole 50cm deep, 25cm high, and 45cm wide through which they were able to enter the premises and force open more than 70 safety deposit boxes.

The raid took place over the Easter bank holiday weekend but wasn’t discovered until Tuesday, 7th April when officers were called by staff.

In addition to the investigation into the robbery, the Met is investigating why an alert received on Friday 3 April at 00:21 advising that an intruder alarm had been activated in the premises was deemed not to need a police response.

Officers have now recovered around 400 exhibits from the site which will be checked for DNA, fingerprints and other evidence. So far no arrests have been made.
