London Eye owners Merlin Entertainments are calling on Londoners and visitors to the capital to support a reduction on VAT for visitor attraction tickets, a move it says would bring the UK into line with other European countries.
Following the coalition’s decision to increase VAT to 20% tickets for the Eye will now be sold net of VAT “in order to provide complete transparency to our visitors.”
The company says VAT will then be added at the point of sale as a separate entry, a move it says will “highlight the extraordinary impact that VAT has on the cost of a day out in the UK.”
Merlin is asking visitors to consider taking part in a short survey, the results will be fed back to Government ministers as part of an industry-wide campaign to reduce the VAT rate for visitor attraction tickets.
