The London Assembly’s Police and Crime Committee says senior Metropolitan Police officers and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) have failed to make the case for the force to be equipped with water cannon.

Mayor Boris Johnson is lobbying the Government for permission to equip the Metropolitan Police with water cannon. The truck-based cannon are currently banned on the UK mainland and any purchase would have to be approved by Home Secretary Theresa May.
