First launched in May, the Santander Cycles app has been downloaded more than 120,000 times and also allows users to hire a bike by getting a ‘release code’ sent straight to their phone, saving them time at the on-street docking stations.
Available for Apple’s iPhone and handsets running Google’s Android operating system, the app also lets users hire a bike without having to use the docking station terminal, buy 24 hour and annual subscriptions and view recent journeys and charges.
Keith Moor, Chief Marketing Officer, Santander UK, explains why he believes the new Santander Cycles scheme is good for Santander and for London.
Transport bosses have been praised for delivering on promises of greater transparency by proactively publishing their cycle hire sponsorship contract with Santander.
Spanish-owned Santander, which built up its UK presence through the purchase of Abbey National and Alliance and Leicester, will replace rivals Barclays who announced in 2013 that it would end its association with the scheme this summer.
