Fitbit Pay comes to London’s transport network

May 30, 2019 - Martin Hoscik@MayorWatch

Fitbit owners can now use their devices to pay for journeys on the Transport for London network.

The fitness brand has added the ability pay for journeys using Fitbit Pay to its Fitbit Charge 3 Special Edition, Versa and Ionic models and says customers will be able to use the new feature in seven major cities around the world, including London.

The service has also gone live in New York where the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s contactless fares system uses parts of TfL’s software, plus on services operated by the Chicago Transit Authority, Singapore Land Transport Authority, Sydney transport, Taiwan iPASS, and TransLink in Vancouver.

“In addition to helping our users get healthier and more active, we’re committed to delivering holistic experiences on our trackers and smartwatches that help keep our 27 million active users engaged,” said James Park, CEO and co-founder of Fitbit.

“We are enabling our on-the-go customers to safely and easily pay for transit with devices that are broadly compatible and have long battery life – all making it easier to go about their day.”
