BBC Asian Network Joins London Mela

August 9, 2006 - Staff

The BBC Asian Network has teamed up with the Mayor of London and Ealing and Hounslow Councils and will act as the main media partner for the fourth London Mela, the annual celebration of Asian culture.

The event, which takes place this on Sunday 13 August 2006 at Gunnersbury Park, will boast six stages and a mix of modern and classical music, dance, visual arts, street theatre, fashion shows, crafts and food stalls.

The BBC Asian Network’s presence at the event will include host of the main stage, presented by the Asian Network’s Sonia Deol and Murtz with DJ Kayper as an on-stage DJ.

Mark Strippel, Head of Music and Live Events, Asian Network, said the network’s involvement with London Mela “marks the first in a number of BBC Asian Network events taking place in the capital this year.”

“As well as hosting the Main Stage, the London Mela will see the London debut of our brand new live events Station Wagon, hosting sets from all of our specialist DJs.”

The BBC Asian Network tent will offer free music downloads from Brit-Asian artists via the station’s listening posts.
