2008 Mayor of London Election Guide

July 31, 2006 - Staff

The 2008 GLA Elections which include elections for Mayor of London and London Assembly will be held on 1st May 2008.

To vote you must:

  • live in London
  • be a British, Commonwealth or EU citizen
  • be at least 18 years of age on election day

The Electoral Commission’s website www.aboutmyvote.co.uk contains information on how to register to vote.

Confirmed Candidates

Siân Berry – Green Party
In 2006 Ms Berry was elected unopposed as Female Principal Speaker at the Green Party’s annual conference. Previously the Party’s national Campaigns Co-ordinator, she was also the party’s candidate for the Hampstead and Highgate constituency in the 2005 General Election.

Garry Bushell – English Democrats
Bushell is perhaps best known for his newspaper columns including in The Sun and The People. He stood as a Parliamentary candidate for the English Democrats Party at the 2005 General Election for the Greenwich and Woolwich constituency.

Ken Livingstone – Labour
The incumbent, Mr Livingstone won the 2000 election as an Independent against Labour’s official candidate Frank Dobson, in 2004 he ran as Labour candidate. Expect public transport and fare concessions to feature prominently in his defence of his record.
