Wandsworth Continues Efforts To Save Post Offices
Councilors in Wandsworth have criticised Post Office bosses after they ruled out rescue plans for three branches.
Wandsworth Council had been seeking to save eight Post Office branches in their borough but say they’ve been told the firm will only agree talks over the future of five local branches.
The council says it’s been advised that no reprieve will be considered for branches at 258 Balham High Road, 268 Battersea Park Road and 279 Putney Bridge Road as they could have a ‘detrimental affect on the sustainability of the network.’
Conceding that “the battle is over” for these branches the council’s deputy leader Maurice Heaster said “having been responsible for shutting half the borough network in just five years, it’s a bit late for the Post Office hierarchy to be showing concern about the risk of further closures.”
Cllr Heaster said the Council would now “focus our efforts on these five remaining branches where at least we will have access to all the information about the business.”
