Students Get Green Metro

Almost 40,000 new University students in London will receive a special ‘green’ edition of the Metro newspaper under an initiative announced by the Mayor today.

Announcing the initiative Mayor Livingstone said “many of the students coming to London for the first time will decide to stay in the capital when they have finished their degrees and will have a big influence on the future of the capital.”

The special edition will give students up-to-date information on what is going on in the capital and offers advice on how to live in a green and sustainable way. It’s also intended to encourage students to find out about local recycling facilities, to be energy efficient and to save water.

The Mayor also expressed the hope that students would “pick up some useful tips on how they can reduce their impact on the environment.”

Karen Wall, Marketing Director Metro said the paper “is the most widely read newspaper amongst students in London so creating a special green edition is an innovative way to talk to them.”
