Sky Arts announces new Mayoral drama

The drama tells the story of London's first female Mayor

A new drama from Sky Arts is to portray the rise of London’s first female Mayor.

Riding a wave of popular opinion after footage of her defiant stance against rioters becomes an internet hit, an ordinary woman finds herself elected to City Hall.

City Hall stars Olivia Williams, Rhashan Stone, Lucy Punch and Martin Shaw and will air later this year as part of the Playhouse Presents… strand of programmes.

…but of course in real life, and if hers was a real campaign, Sky itself would effectively be unable to give her campaign tv coverage under the broadcast guidelines formulated by the BBC for the state and for all broadcasters for the duration of the London Mayor election. She would be listed under the minor others candidates and would have to feature with all the others on the rare occasions on which she was allowed to appear on tv. Whatever she did she would not be able to be given any meaningful coverage…and if it’s barred from tv, then the electorate frankly will know very little about it. And of course also she would be barred from writing to her constituents by the spending rules and end up inside herself like the rioters!
