RMT Suspends Strike Action

The threat of strike action on the London Underground was suspended today after Tube Lines and the RMT reached agreement in principle on a two year pay deal.

The deals mean the union will ensure normal services run on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines and ballot its members with a recommendation to accept the two year pay deal.

According to the union the offer includes a minimum £1,000 salary increase for lower paid grades and apprentices, while points technicians will receive an additional increase of £3,000 in their basic salaries in addition to the 4.99 per cent in year one of the deal.

Worker will also benefit from an increased travel subsidy from home to place of work from 80 to 90 per cent from April 2009.

Terry Morgan, Chief Executive of Tube Lines said: “This is a good deal for Tube Lines. We are pleased that, following constructive discussions with the RMT today, we have been able to agree in principle a two year deal that will satisfy all parties.”

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “There has been some hard negotiating going on today, and the RMT executive has agreed that the resulting new package that Tubelines has put on the table should be recommended to our members,
