Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate Brian Paddick says he would appoint Lewisham councillor Duwayne Brooks as an advisor on youth and community issues if elected next month.

Paddick’s campaign say the role would see Brooks “ensuring that young people have safe places to meet and engage with the community and allow him to develop opportunities that turn youngsters away from the gang culture that has developed in London.”

Mr Brooks said: “I see my role as a real opportunity to not just make sure people’s voices are heard, but are acted upon. I intend to restore the trust between the police and all communities as well as inspire our young people to take a stake in society.”

Recent opinion polls have placed Mr Paddick third behind rivals Boris Johnson and Ken Livingstone with just 5% of Lodnoners saying they would vote for him.

Last week Mr Paddick made headlines after suggesting it was “ridiculous” for journalists to ask him the cost of his policies.

Candidates for Mayor include Jenny Jones (Green party), Ken Livingstone (Labour), Lawrence Webb (UKIP) Boris Johnson (Conservative) and Brian Paddick (Liberal Democrat). A full list of candidates can be found here.
