MPA To Consider Met Youth Strategy

The Metropolitan Police Authority will today consider the MPS Youth Strategy ‘It is never too early, it is never too late’, as well as discussing the proposed MPA scrutiny into the relationship between young people and the Met.

Len Duvall, chair of the MPA, said “the MPA youth scrutiny will hear directly from young people about the problems they face and how the police and partner agencies can work together to solve them.”

“Many adult practitioners, professionals and commentators are currently airing their views on why young people become victims or perpetrators of crime and we hope our scrutiny will set some clear objectives to work towards.”

“The Met’s Youth Strategy was sent out to over 150 external bodies for consultation but the Authority wants to make sure that young people are continually involved. Our scrutiny will help this happen by linking in closely with the Met’s strategy and ensuring that it can be implemented effectively. It is vital young people have a real and ongoing voice in how their problems are addressed and how the strategy is developed.”

The meeting will also consider a review of the MPA policy on charging for events, the ACPO conflict management Taser trial by specially trained officers (STOs).
