Met Boss To Join Peace Walk
Met Police Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, will join 7/7 survivor Gill Hicks for WALKTALK on Thursday 14 August 2008 in order to show his support for all those who champion a cohesive and peaceful society.
The walk, initiated by Gill Hicks and her husband Joe Kerr (both of M.A.D. for Peace) along with Zulfi Hussain MBE of Global Promise and Together for Peace, spans the two hundred miles from Leeds to London and aims to raise awareness that the wider community can work together for a safe, tolerant, and peaceful society.
Sir Ian said: “Londoners, and indeed the British public as a whole, will never forget the tragic events of 7 July 2005. Gill Hicks embodies the bravery and spirit of those who were most severely affected.
“I am pleased to be able to show my support for Gill and the WALKTALK initiative, and to join all those involved who wish to make our society one that embraces peaceful discussion, community safety and tolerance.”
The Commissioner will join WalkTalk at Edgware Reform Synagogue, and walk to the Quaker Meeting House, Rectory Lane, Edgware.
