Mayoral and London Assembly Election Results

The 2004 London Assembly assembly results have been announced. The first result was the Croydon and Sutton constituency where sitting member Andrew Pelling held the seat for the Conservatives.

Mr Pelling was elected on a result of 52,330, equating to 36.78% of the votes cast. Turnout was 37.82%, up from 35.54% in 2000.

Labour’s first result was the holding of Enfield and Haringey seat previously held by former Deputy Mayor and one time Mayoral candidate, Nicky Gavron. Ms Gavron is a candidate on the London List and has been succeeded by Joanne McCartney.

Later Ken Livingstone was declared the victor in the Mayoral election and secured 828,380 votes, a majority of over 150,000.

However the Labour Assembly Leader, Lord Harris lost his Brent and Harrow seat to the Conservatives making the Tories the largets party on the Assembly.

The LibDems will be disappointed not to have won any constituency seats after they poured waves of campaigners into the Lambeth and Southwark seat. However they increased their share of the vote and gained an extra List member.

London’s Greens lost one member reducing their number to just 2, Jenny Jones and Mayoral Candidate Darren Johnson.

Following a strong showing by their Mayoral candidate, Frank Maloney, UKIP secured 2 of the 11 ‘top-up’ list members.
