Over 100 members of SO19, London’s elite firearms unit, have laid down their weapons following the suspension of two fellow officers.
Inspector Neil Sharman and Pc Kevin Fagan were suspended last week after an inquest jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing five years after they shot Harry Stanley.
Mr Stanley was carrying a table leg, but the officers had been despatched following reports that he was carrying a shotgun.
The officers now face the prospect of criminal charges.
