Landlords reminded on energy efficiency certificates
Residential landlords are being reminded that they need to get their properties energy-efficiency rated under new Government rules which came into effect on October 1st.
Each property must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) whcih should be provided whenever a home is let to a new tenant. The certificates are designed to inform tenants on the energy efficiency of their home and how much it might cost to keep it warm.
Under the new rules Trading Standards officers can request to see the EPC for a particular property. Landlords unable to comply with the request could face legal action and a penalty charge of £200 per dwelling.
Certificates aren’t required for properties occupied prior to October 1st which continue to be occupied by the same tenant.
