Summer fun comes to Trafalgar Square
Deckchairs, magic and street performances are set to liven up Trafalgar Square as a new programme of free summer fun gets underway this week.

Work to replace the lighting system in the Trafalgar Square fountains with an energy efficient LED system has been completed in time for the Square’s participation in the Story of London festival, which starts Monday and continues throughout June.

London’s Deputy Mayor has called on households in the capital to take advantage of schemes being operated across the capital and recycle their Christmas Trees. Richard Barnes, London’s second most senior politician, was in Trafalgar Square this morning to help recycle London’s most iconic Christmas Tree and was joined by young people from the theatre company, Chickenshed.

Boris Johnson will today set out wide ranging plans to broaden the availability of arts and culture in the capital. The Mayor’s vision for culture in the capital is set out in a new policy paper, Cultural Metropolis, which is published today.
Trafalgar Square carols and tree lighting ceremony
The annual Trafalgar Square Christmas tree lighting ceremony is to be held on 4th December, the day will also mark the start of a free two week carol singing festival which is being supported by the Mayor of London.
