Passenger watchdog London TravelWatch has welcomed the news that the London Assembly is to set up a review of its role. Earlier this week the Assembly unanimously agreed to look at the costs of the Watchdog and its procedures “to ensure that it is best placed to deliver value for money and serve passengers’ needs effectively over the next ten years.”

Taxi fares in London are set to rise by 2.3 per cent after Transport for London’s (TfL) Board today agreed the need to ensure drivers were able to meet rising costs. TfL say the increase “aims to find a balance between maintaining income levels for drivers, who face disproportionately higher costs in order to work than average Londoners, while ensuring passengers still get a fair price” and is the lowest increase since 2004.

London TravelWatch, the London Assembly funded passenger watchdog, has published a new report into the performance of TfL controlled transport services in the capital. The report covers second quarter of 2009/2010 (July to September 2009) and rates all transport modes using a ‘traffic-light’ system. The organisation says the aim was to provide “easy to understand information about the performance of TfL from its users’ perspective.”
