Grade II listing for Tower Hamlet buildings

Key elements of Tower Hamlets history have been granted Grade II listed status following advice from English Heritage. The buildings include the former New People’s Palace opened by George VI and Queen Elizabeth as part of their first public drive through London as King and Queen.
London’s earliest tidal mill discovered

Archaeologists from the Museum of London have discovered the foundations of London’s earliest found medieval tide-powered mill. The discovery was made at Greenwich Wharf during archaeological investigations in conjunction with Erith Contractors Ltd to prepare for the building of a new residential development.
Historic fire engines to go on display

RAF Uxbridge proposals agreed

Councillors in Hillingdon have agreed revised proposals for the future of RAF Uxbridge following consultation on draft ideas took place last year. Council officials say the 340 responses received from residents have helped ensure that the proposals reflect the needs of the local community.
Victorian London photos go on display

An exhibition of photos showing the capital’s Victorian past will be on display from 13th December at Church Farmhouse Museum in Barnet. The Historic Views of London exhibition contains images from former Barnet resident Bernard Howarth- Loomess personal collection, now held by National Museums Scotland in Edinburgh.
Hendon marks 350th anniversary of Cromwell’s death

Hendon’s Church Farm House Museum, the borough’s only surviving mid-17th Century building, is housing a display of Civil War memorabilia to mark the 350th anniversary of Oliver Cromwell’s death this month. Cromwell is best known for his involvement in the Civil War and role as Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland but was also an MP for Huntingdon and had a number of links with the borough of Barnet.
