TfL ‘to give up Freedom pass reserve powers’

London Councils, the umbrella group representing the capital’s borough councils, formally agreed yesterday to contribute to the funding of the 24 hour Freedom Pass and to guarantee the scheme for the next five years. Although the extension of the Freedom Pass to 24 hours was announced by London Mayor Boris Johnson the scheme is funded and operated by the capital’s boroughs.

Boris Johnson used a visit to Bermondsey this morning to confirm that London’s Freedom Pass holders will be able to benefit from free travel on the capital’s transport network 24 hours a day from 2nd January.

Boris Johnson has announced a raft of fare increases which will see a single Oyster Pay as You Go bus trip increase to 90p plus higher costs for bus passes and season tickets. Overall fares will increase by six per cent in 2009.
