A report commissioned by London Mayor Boris Johnson has found an earned amnesty for “irregular” migrants could be worth almost £850 million per year in additional tax revenue.
Carried out by the London School of Economics, the report follows calls by the London Assembly for the Mayor to join it in lobbying the Westminster Government to introduce a time limited regularisation process for suitable migrants.
Welcoming today’s publication, London Assembly Chair Darren Johnson AM said the report “lends further economic weight to the argument in favour of regularising the status of hundreds of thousands of Londoners who are already making a significant contribution to the capital’s wealth.”
Mr Johnson added: “In the midst of a recession it would be tantamount to negligence to ignore the potential to add £3 billion per annum to UK GDP by introducing a limited and earned amnesty for hard working migrants who demonstrate a commitment to contributing fully to our society.”
In a statement issued on Monday, the Mayor said the report “has introduced some long overdue facts, hard evidence and academic rigour into a debate which has far too often been dominated by myth, anecdote and hearsay.”
“So far from a financial burden, as some suggest, this new research has found an amnesty could be worth up to £3 billion a year to the country’s economy.”
“The study also demolishes the argument that an amnesty would inevitably lead to increased migration to the UK and identifies effective border controls as the vital factor in controlling and deterring illegal immigration.”
Utter Rubbish, what a fabrication! We don’t have the room. Amnesties encourage more migrants. They need to be sent back to where they came from.

I APPRECIATE THE UK IMMGRATION OFFICE OF THE INTREST TO SECURE UK BORDERS BUT AT THE SAME TIME, IT’S A HARD WORK FOR A MINORITY TO CONSIDER A JOB OF MAJOURITY..IN THE SENCE THAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS MORE POLICE, MORE IMMIGRATIONS, MORE DOCTORS, MORE NURSES…AND MORE CASUAL WORKERS.
MY QUESTION IS HOW COULD THERE BE SUFFICIENT WORKER IF THERE IS NO AMNESTY GRANTED FOR THE COMPETENT PEOPLE, WHO HAVE PROVE OF LIVING IN UK FOR UPTO 4YRS LIVING IN LIMBO,
HOWEVER I WILL LIKE TO POINT OUT, THIS PEOPLE ARE HUMAN AND FRUSTRATION COULD CHANGE A GOOD PERSON’S MORAL..ALSO I WILL LIKE US TO UNDERSTAND AN IDLE MIND IS A DEVILS WORKSHOP. BRITAIN WOULD BE DOING ALOT OF THEMSELVE FAVOUR BY GIVING THIS IMMGRANT FREEDOM TO FACE RESPONSIBILITY..SO MANY WHO HAS BEEN DEPORTED IS KEEP COMING BACK, THE PEOPLE COMING BACK ARE NO NEW PEOPLE TO UK.

INMAGINE ALOT OF CRIME REGARDING FAKE DOCUMENT IN UK FOR SECURING AN EMPLOYMENT, IT’S BECOMING TOO RAMPAT AND THEIR CHILDREN ARE ALREADY LEARNING THIS RIDICULOUSE ACT. NOW TELL ME WHAT IS GOING TO BECOME OF A COUNTRY WHERE 6OO THOUSAND PEOPLE LEARN CRIME. THERE IS NO LITTLE CRIME, CRIME IS CRIME.
WE SHOULD REALISE GIVING AMNESTY IS THE WAY OUT TO BREAK THE CORD OF MAJOURITY CRIME OF ILLEGAL WORKING TEAM.
MANY OF THIS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SEXUALLY MOLLESTED AND TREATED WITH ONE ABUSE OR THE OTHER BEFORE COMING DOWN TO UK, NOW MANY ARE TAKING TO HOSPITAL AS SECOND HOME.
AS LONG AS THIS PEOPLE HAS GOT NO AMNESTY UK CITIZEN ARE NOT SAFE, LOOK AT THE HOSPITAL, ILLEGAL IMMGRANT FULL UP THE PLACE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE EMOTIONAL PROBLEM.
TAKE A LOOK AT THE SHOPPING MALL, THEY ARE JUST WANDERING ABOUT.
GO TO MANY SHOPS THEY PICK STUFFS WITHOUT PAYING BECAUSE OF LACK, NOW TELL ME ARE MORE HARM NOT DONE TO THESE PEOPLE?
IF AMNESTY IS GIVING TO THESE PEOPLE, SANITY WOULD BECOME PARMANENT..AND A SANE PEOPLE ARE THE GROUTH OF THE NATION..SICK PEOPLE HAS NOTHING TO OFFER.
What if the already , or the unemployed to be , were to take up those jobs and paid tax on the earnings. I was also led to believe that the Job Centre was going to make the long term unemployed take up these types of jobs. If the recessions continues more people will be losing jobs and then looking for alternative employment so that they do not have to take social security hand outs. When you look at the bigger picture you start to wonder how the hell will a Migrant Amnesty bring about additional tax revenue ? We should honestly be deporting the illegal immigrants and offering the jobs to people that are here legally and want to work and pay tax without being dependant on the social security system. People should realise that thousands are already unemployed looking for work and are more than willing to pay their share of tax , and we really do not need an immigrant amnesty to make this happen. The GLA report in my view is very sillly and will unfairly deprive people of work that are here legally.

Please dont make me feel like An Accidental Racist . The Law is the Law and rules have been broken by both employers and employee’s and there can be no excuses.
My concern is that immigration is abused in many different ways and when wrong do’ers are caught they cannot be deported for many reasons , even if they have committed murder, drug trafficing , sex slavery importation or what ever.
Now the GLA wants to grant an Immigrant Amnesty for illegal oversea’s workers when those jobs could be filled by people that are already out of work and claiming benefits. The United Kingdom would not loose out on much needed Tax if this situation was properly addressed.
All I see is another complete waste of Tax payers money by researching and making this report , all they had to do was prosecute employers that break the law and then make sure that they employ people straight from the benefit system or through an employment agency.
Wine Odusi , I am sorry if my comments offend you in any way if that is the case. I have myself been deported for working illegally in Australia , and I accepted that I broke the law and I respected that.
