Former Labour MP Oona King is reportedly ready to announce her intentions to run against Ken Livingstone to become Labour’s candidate for Mayor of London at the 2012 election.
According to reports, King, who lost her Bethnal Green & Bow seat to George Galloway in 2005, could announce her candidacy as early as Wednesday.
There has been much speculation about a possible King candidacy and in April she was quoted as telling the Telegraph: “A lot of people have said I should, and I’m very interested”.
Labour’s selection process will see a candidate adopted this autumn, 18 months ahead of the 2012 Greater London Authority election.
Other Labour figures to mentioned as possible runners include former ministers Lord Mandelson and Alan Johnson.
