London City airport has been granted permission to increase the number of ‘flight movements’ to 120,000 per year after planning officials at Newham council have the go-ahead on a planning application. The airport currently handles 80,000 flights a year.
In a statement issued on Wednesday night airport bosses said the decision “recognises the airport’s importance in the community, its contribution to the local economy and the increased number of jobs that will become available to local residents as a result of our growth.”
Under the terms of the planning application there will be no changes to current operating hours. The airport prides itself on a policy of “community engagement” and says almost 30% of staff live in the borough of Newham.
However critics of the scheme have previously warned that the proposals would lead to excessive noise levels.
1. The London City Airport was only ever meant to be a small airport and limited to 30,000 flights as it was in residential area.
2. None of the local Councillors in Newham spoke to represent residents objections!.
3. Even our local MP Stephen Timms wrote in to the local paper to support the airport.
4. At the Planning meeting none of the Councillors bothered to grill the London City Airport about the lack of noise monitoring for the last 8 years and dubious claims about job benefits.
5. The airport spreads lies, saying it is people’s fault for living near airport. But it is actually the airport fault for expanding its operation, such the the noise from aircraft disturbs even more communities.
Which honest Council will support expansion of airports?
When will this country learn? Haven’t the recent events taught you anything?
The drive to make money outweighs every social aspect of our lives.
They have just approved the extra runway at Stanstead based on the same dubious ‘job creation and expansion’ claims.
Heathrow will be next.
Why should City airport care about residents when there is money to be made.
The best thing you can do is hope for a depression and perhaps they won’t build it.
Even at 10 miles away, LCA traffic is obtrusive and stressfull. It tends to be abundant, excessively fast, noisy, and below altitude. Present rerouting allocated without democratic poll. Another case of ‘I’m alright Jack so who cares about you’
Please see the below link that has a letter from Boris to Robin Wales. Telling them to do their job and watch London City Airport.
The Airport would have you believe that Boris was behind them 100%, this proves that he was not.
