Deputy Mayor of London Richard Barnes hosted a reception at City Hall yesterday to mark the contribution and work of London’s hospice movement as London’s government participated in World Hospice Day.
The inaugural meeting of Boris Johnson’s International Business Advisory Council was held at City Hall yesterday with members discussing the need to continue improvements to the capital’s transport infrastructure and the consequences of the credit crunch for London.
Boris Johnson will chair his first meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority at City Hall on Monday 6th October 2008. The meeting will be the first of the full Authority to be held since new powers enabling the Mayor to chair the Authority or appoint a chair came into effect.
London’s councils are reminding households of the need to complete and return their electoral registration forms or risk facing a £1000 fine and a criminal record. The forms are used to ensure the electoral register is as accurate and up to date as possible and are sent out every year to all households.
Ian Luder has been elected as the the 681st Lord Mayor of the City of London and will take office on Friday 7 November ahead of the Lord Mayor’s Show the following day. Luder, who previously, served as Sheriff of the City, is a tax accountant and City businessman.
Labour Assembly Members have accused Boris Johnson of using cutbacks to “re-launch” his “failed mayoralty”. The comments from Labour’s John Biggs follow a robust exchange between the pair at Wednesday’s Mayor’s Question Time over Johnson’s plans to “ensure the GLA is more coherent, focused and will deliver better value for hard-pressed London taxpayers.”
The public should have greater access to information on how efficiently their council is being run, according to ministers.
Local Government Minister John Healey said he wanted “ensure that local people will be able to see for themselves how efficiently their council is run, and to be able to challenge their council if it is under-performing.”
City Hall has today confirmed the membership of an International Business Advisory Council, headed by WPP Chief Executive Sir Martin Sorrell, which will advise Mayor Boris Johnson on the capital’s economic well being.
