Boris to chair first MPA meeting on 6th October

Boris Johnson will chair his first meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority at City Hall on Monday 6th October 2008 at 10.00 a.m.

The meeting will be the first of the full Authority to be held since new powers enabling the Mayor to chair the Authority or appoint a chair came into effect on 30 September 2008. Previously the Authority elects the chair from within their membership.

Mayor Johnson said he wold use his position as Chair to “ensure that resources are in place for police operations to be stepped up to tackle crime, but real progress can only be achieved if we all work together – the Metropolitan police, London’s communities and all our partners.”

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting which will include a report on policing performance by Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair who will also respond to questions from Authority members.

Chairing the Authority was a key commitment in the Mayor’s election manifesto.
