Boris appoints environment advisor

A senior Transport for London official has been appointed as Boris Johnson’s environment advisor, City Hall confirmed yesterday.

Isabel Dedring is currently Director of the Policy Unit for Transport for London where she has overseen a number of initiatives including low carbon transport and sustainable travel planning.

Mr Johnson said he was “hugely excited that Isabel Dedring will take forward this vital agenda.”

“Isabel is a huge asset. She arrives already equipped with an exceptional knowledge of environment and climate change issues in relation to London, along with a top-notch track record of achieving real results both in the public and private sector. Isabel shares my huge passion to see London leading the world as a city which is dedicated to becoming even cleaner and greener.”

Dedring said “London can and must play a leading role in taking real steps to improve the environment. We can make our environment more pleasant, save money on energy bills, create new jobs and I am determined to ensure we deliver on this agenda.”

Responding to news to the appointment Green Party AM Darren Johnson commented: “It is about time that Boris appointed an environment advisor, since the majority of his other advisors were appointed within the first few weeks of him coming into office.”

“Whilst I welcome his choice of Isabel, my main concern is whether she will be given the authority to tackle the overwhelming priority of climate change, which is vital to safeguard the quality of life of all Londoners.”
